Dilantha is an International motorsport idol who has won the GT3 Asia Championship in 2010, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship – Asian Series in 2016 and is also a triple Malaysia Super Car GT Champion. Making history as the first Sri Lankan racing driver to win an International Motor Racing Championship.
An experienced single seater and sports car driver who became the first non Japanese Asian driver to compete in Formula Nippon and Japan GT500 and GT300 also winning the N1 Championship in Japan in 1995 and winning the Tokachi 24 hours race 3 times. He has also done several 24 endurance races around the Globe including USA, Dubai and finishing 2nd Overall in the 24 Hour Bathurst race in Australia. Up to now he has over 150 Podiums in International races and over 200 in local races.
The combination of Dilango Racing, Dilantha Malagamuwa and Lamborghini is the only brand that epitomizes the 21st Century Sri Lanka as a fast and modern country. No other brand, or sport can provide the energy and publicity as much as this combination to an audience on a globally accepted level.
In 1997, after competing in Japan’s top level Formula Nippon, the Prime minister of Japan at the time Mr. Keizo Obuchi felicitated Dilantha for his effort in becoming the first non-Japanese Asian to achieve this feat.
In 2012 the Sri Lanka Auto Sports association awarded the national colours award and a special recognition to Dilantha Malagamuwa for his contribution to motorsports representing Sri Lanka in the International arena at the National Awards Presentation 2011. The award was presented by the president of SLAS, Rizvi Farook, and the Minister of Sports, Mahindananda Aluthgamage.
Dilantha was selected as the Brand Ambassador for the SLIM 14th Brand Excellence awards with the ceremony’s theme being ‘Will you race ahead of the rest?’.
President Maithripala Sirisena awarded the runner up Presidential award to Dilango Racing for being the “Most Outstanding Leisure Sports Provider of the Year 2015” and also another runner up Presidential Award to Dilantha Malagamuwa for being the “Most Outstanding Sportsman of the Year 2015”
Sports first Platinum Award 2016, which was held at the Stein studio, is considered the most prestigious award ceremony for sports people in Sri Lanka. Dilantha Malagamuwa was able to win two awards at the event, “Best Motor Sport Athlete of the Year” and “Most Popular Player of the Year”
