His Story
–01.Dilantha started his career in motorcycle racing riding a honda CB50JX at the age of 16 after inspired by a Hollywood movie ‘Silver Dream Racer’ and won the first race.
From a 50cc he went straight to a Yamaha TZ350 at the age of 17 and finished 3rd. His first International Race was in the Calcutta Grand Prix in 1983 at the age of 19 riding the same Yamaha TZ350.
Moved to Japan in 1985 at the age of 21 with the dream of becoming an International Championship. First started racing Motor Cycles in Japan between 1987-1989. Started racing Cars in Japan in 1990 in the Toyota Corolla cup finishing 6th in the Championship. Then competed in Group N1, Formula Toyota, Formula 3, Formula Nippon (F3000) Japan GT300 and GT500.
His Story
–02.In 1995 became the first Non Japanese Asian to win a Championship winning the N1 Championship driving a BMW M3.
In 1997 became the first Non-Japanese Asian to compete in Formula Nippon(F3000) the highest level of racing in Japan. Won the Japan Tokachi 24 hours 3 times in the class. Did many 24 hour races around the world including Rolex Daytona 24 hours, Dubai 24 hours, Australia Bathurst 24 hours finishing 2nd overall.
He has over 150 podiums in Sri Lanka with records winning 6 events in the same day competing in Motor Cycles, Modified Cars and Single setters.
Over 190 podiums internationally with 8 Championships and 10 first runner-up in Championships in Asia and Europe.
